La Meunerie Urbaine

Fresh bread and fast service: How La Meunerie Urbaine keeps customers coming back!

Some eateries have a slow start before business picks up, but others hit the mark right away. Such is the case for La Meunerie Urbaine – an artisanal bakery that has been an instant success since opening in the Fall of 2017. One glance at their chic black and white awnings on a leafy corner in Montreal’s “Monkland Village” is enough to attract passersby. Their award-winning baguettes and beautiful baked goods are what keep clients coming back.

La Meunerie Urbaine is a family-run business headed by Martin Falardeau and his wife Dina Dager.

“We’ve owned other very popular bakeries, but we sold them and opened this location. It’s in a very family-friendly neighborhood, and people keep returning for our large loaves that we sell by the ¼, the ½ or simply whole,” explains Dina.

The bakery uses high-quality organic flours exclusively, and is also popular for their pastries, croissants and coffee.

Making the switch to the right POS

While Dina and her family might know how to run a bakery and provide great customer service, they chose different software this time around.

“At our previous bakeries we used a popular point of sale that was truly terrible for us. We constantly had problems with it, and the customer service at the company always made it seem like we were the problem, not the product,” reveals Dina.

Before opening La Meunerie Urbaine, Dina and Martin asked several friends in the cafe and restaurant industry what they used for a point of sale. She kept hearing the same recommendation over and over: Try checking out Koomi.

A painless experience

“Getting Koomi was a very good decision,” says Dina. “The setup process went smoothly, learning it was easy, and using it every day couldn’t be easier.”

Because Koomi works on sleek iPads, the staff at La Meunerie Urbaine can move it around with ease. The bakery menu also changes frequently, and, according to Dina, changing prices and products is as simple as it gets. “Anyone can learn to use it on their first day, which is important because we have quite a few employees to manage our peak hours.”

Handling the rush

Saturdays are La Meunerie Urbaine’s busiest day, and they often need up to 7 people behind the counter to manage the rush. In fact, a second Koomi POS was needed to handle the insatiable demand for fresh bread.

“We love that we can move the Koomi iPads around because it can get hectic during rushes. Now, with two stations, we can serve crowds quickly. Saving time is obviously super important because we want our customers to have a good experience. Since we don’t have to worry about having problems with our POS, we can really focus on serving customers quickly and efficiently.”

Service is key

For Dina, having assistance and quality service was important in her decision to switch to Koomi POS.

“We haven’t had any major problems with Koomi, but when a couple of small issues arose when it was first installed, the Koomi people were amazing to work with. They simply solved the problem without blaming us. It’s nice to work with a company that cares.”
