The Duo Behind Dalla Rose: Why they chose Koomi for their ice cream shop.

On any given summer day in Montreal’s St-Henri neighborhood, expect to see crowds enjoying ice cream sandwiches milling around an unassuming storefront. The minimalist shop, Dalla Rose, has been a hit since it opened in 2016, and is the brainchild of Nick Rosati and his partner Michael Dalla Libera. After more than 20 years of experience in the fine dining restaurant industry, the two decided to open something a little more lighthearted and accessible, and Dalla Rose was born.

Dalla Rose serves ice cream and their popular ice cream sandwiches made from the highest quality ingredients, and sourced mostly from local, small-batch suppliers. The founders understand the demand for fast-casual restaurant experiences where customers can enjoy high-end food at an accessible price point. They also know that the right software is key for serving crowds quickly, which is why they chose Koomi.

“Our friend recommended Koomi, which is how we found out about it in the first place,” shares Rosati. “We checked it out and liked that it was super simple and easy to learn, and really liked the helpful team at the head office. It was an easy choice. Clearly it’s a good fit since we’ve been using it for years now!”

Rosati and his management team love using Koomi’s easy-to-process reports, such as daily sales reports, to make decisions based on data.

“We can look at our daily sales over time to understand which days and hours are the busiest – it’s crucial information for staffing and managing inventory. It’s also pretty useful that I can just log in from home or wherever I am to see how things are going. I use the dashboard view multiple times a day.”says Rosati.

Another important POS feature Dalla Rose must absolutely have is MEV (SRM) compliancy. Recently, the Quebec government enforced a law whereby all restaurants must use a new recording module to more accurately report sales. Fortunately, Koomi is MEV-compliant so the Dalla Rose team didn’t have to switch to another system – a common problem in Quebec.

At the end of the day, Koomi allows the Dalla Rose staff to focus on everything except their software.

“It’s affordable, it works on an iPad so we can move it around, and it’s just really easy. We haven’t had any problems with it, which is probably the best thing we can say since there are always things that can go wrong on a daily basis in this business!”
